Krav Maga Federation

The KRAV MAGA FEDERATION training program teaches the techniques of Krav Maga taught as originally taught by Imi Lichtenfeld.  The techniques developed by Imi Lichtenfeld constitute the reference material used by KMF instructors.

In addition to the Krav Maga techniques, the science of neurological strikes is incorporated into the curriculum developed by Alain Cohen in his Krav Maga Security program. Krav Maga Security was originally oriented specifically toward professionals working in the security field.  The techniques taught to professionals have now been adapted to provide a rapid learning mechanism to civilian students who are searching for a structured, professional approach to quickly gain powerful self-protection skills.

Krav Maga Security techniques focus on performing defensive and offensive exercises, developing the mental attitude necessary to follow through with learned techniques, and nurturing and developing the student’s survival instincts, all as taught by Imi Lichtenfeld.  Krav Maga Security also introduces the student to specific non-lethal percussive neurological techniques that are used to create a dysfunction of the nervous system in the attacker, the idea being to disable but not cause permanent damage with our attacks.  This is in keeping with the Krav Maga Security philosophy that the student must have techniques to cope with attacks of varying severity.  Ultimately, this is accomplished by teaching the student a smaller arsenal of powerful and aggressive offensive and defensive techniques, allowing the student to better assimilate the essential principles of the techniques in less time.At all levels, the Krav Maga Security curriculum also includes unarmed and armed combat strategies, techniques related to shooting, infiltration (by individual or security teams), anti-terrorist theory and response techniques, and other security subjects.  For these reasons, some of the best elite units use the Krav Maga Security curriculum as the basis for their training regimen.  Alain Cohen can assist commanders and field ops leaders in formulating a well-defined, high-intensity training curriculum to ensure the best possible results are realized by elite tactical units.  This positive, results-oriented approach allows professionals and civilians at all levels to maximize their learning experience.

The KRAV MAGA FEDERATION (headquartered in Israel) is also established in 20 countries world wide with other 70 international instructors and is represented by a competent staff of with advanced martial experience, many of whom work as professionals in the field of the emergency and security.  In conclusion, Krav Maga Security training delivers to students at all levels a rich training experience in keeping with the original techniques of Krav Maga combined with additional KMF-specific techniques that result in a powerful self-defense capability, which in turn results in rewarding self-confidence.

The Hebrew words "krav maga" translate to English as "contact combat" or sometimes "close combat".  Originating in Israel, Krav Maga is widely recognized in military and law enforcement circles as the most efficient contact combat or hand-to-hand combat system in existence.  Therefore, Krav Maga is taught to aviation and general security personnel, close protection (bodyguard) specialists, and elite military and law enforcement personnel throughout the world. The techniques taught by the Krav Maga Security Federation were developed in Israel by Krav Maga Master, Alain Cohen.  Mr. Cohen now teaches the techniques of his system to students in many countries.  The Krav Maga close combat system is the official self-defense and hand-to-hand combat system employed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the Israeli National and Military Police, as well as Israeli special operations and security units.  In addition, Krav Maga is the hand-to-hand combat system used by agents of the Mossad in Israel, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, and the Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIGN) in France. The Krav Maga system is also widely taught to Israeli citizens under the auspices of the Israeli Ministry of Education.

Krav Maga means "Close combat" in Hebrew. It consists of two parts:

-Self-defense, which is the essential framework. This is made up of a variety of techniques which aim to enable those have been begun training to defend themselves against an attack, to avoid being injured and to finish-off an assailant. It includes responses to a wide variety of attacks, armed or unarmed and from various positions: upright, seated, lying down...

-Hand-to-hand combat, which constitutes a more advanced phase of Krav Maga; here one is taught ways in which to neutralize an opponent quickly and effectively. It includes elements which are, strictly speaking, more concerned with actual fighting: tactics, feints, various attack combinations, the psychological dimension of combat… and the training exercises reinforce its spirit and develop the ability to manage violent confrontations whilst in a state of stress.

Krav Maga is not just another school of martial arts, based on conventional approaches. It is above all concerned with a modern methodology characterized by a coherent and logical approach allowing natural, practical and easy techniques, based on relatively simple movements of the human body. This discipline's concern with realism does not therefore permit rules, limits or its use in sporting events.

Krav Maga grew out of an environment in which violence, particularly of an ideological or political nature, was commonplace. It was consequently tested, studied and refined and has demonstrated itself to be a comprehensive method of self-defense when faced with critical danger.

THE SEARCH FOR THE EFFECTIVENES

In Krav Maga we believe that simplicity is a determining factor in safeguarding one's chances of survival when faced with physical aggression. Simple movements are short and consequently less tiring. There are two good reason for simple movements: they constitute the most effective way of preserving one's physical stamina during a fight, and a simple movement, being short has less distance to cover, and is thus inevitably faster.

In spite of the absence of limitations in Krav Maga, we obviously abide by all the necessary safety regulations to ensure that students can improve their level of practice in a secure environment. We must also however, ensure that no movement, nor any attack, is foreign to us. Aesthetics are of no concern to us; our priority is effectiveness. Our concern is to avoid any false teaching, and to prioritize instead a culture of effectiveness which we will be able to use in moments of absolute necessity. First of all we will make every effort to remain alive and, if necessary to kill in order not to be killed. Secondly, we will try to be sufficiently effective to exercise the self-control necessary not to have to kill or to cause irreparable damage. This is the point at which Krav Maga becomes an art form.
